Writing a good prompt

Have a question? Ask ChatGPT Ask Claude

The AI builds from what you tell it. A good first prompt saves many rounds of changes.

  1. What it is and who it is for. “A booking site for a small hair salon” is better than “a website”.
  2. The pages. List them: home, services, booking, contact.
  3. What it stores or does. “A booking form that saves name, phone, service and time”; “members can sign in and see their past bookings”.
  4. The look. A style, colours, or a site you like: “calm, lots of white space, dark green accents”.
Make a website for my salon.
  • One change at a time works best for big changes: “add a pricing page”, then “make the header sticky”.
  • Point at the thing. Turn on Edit and click the element, then press Ask AI — the AI changes exactly that part. See Point and edit.
  • Say what is wrong, not only what to do. “The booking button is hard to see on mobile — make it full width and orange”.
  • Show it. Paste a screenshot or a design image into the chat; models that read images will use it. See Images and files.
  • Talk it through first. Switch the chat to Discuss to plan a feature with the AI without changing any code, then switch back to Auto to build it.

Under the prompt box on the dashboard you can tick Store and manage records or Collect form submissions. They tell the AI up front that your app needs a database or forms; they don’t change your prompt text.

If a request is too large, the AI may stop and ask you to continue — ask again in smaller steps. Long sessions also have a per-session credit limit.
